Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, learning professionals and colleagues...
Our speaker today is a trainer, instructional designer, speaker, magician, musician and comedian whose expertise is applying entertainment techniques to the learning environment.
His entire life has been spent teaching and entertaining.
At the age of eight he taught his brother and sister how to manipulate string puppets so they could perform at his birthday party.
In his 20s, he went on the road as the magical creator-musical arranger for a show band. As a part of the act, they burned their singer alive, sawed her in half and threw knives through her midsection. He quit the road after ten years and twelve different singers.
Next, he designed and facilitated training for a lot of goofy people at Disney World in Florida.
Along the way, he taught college classes and wrote books including Training with a Beat (how to use music in training), Cartoons for Trainers (royalty free cartoons for training) and Show Biz Training (how to stage a training event).
He created the CLOUT Creator Inventory, a performance behavior self-assessment for trainers.
He also composed and arranged a CD of training music called Game Show Themes for Trainers.
He is a frequent contributor to training publications, including T&D, the ASTD InfoLine and The Training and Performance Source Book.
He is also a frequent speaker at international conferences, including ASTD, ASCD, IAL, ISPI, NSA, and SHRM.
